It's funny how you know things, but sometimes you forget them, or you convince yourself they aren't true. For instance, I've long known 2 things about myself: 1) I'm more productive when I'm busy and multitasksing than when I have lots of free time. This stands to reason that I would be productive in the aggregate when I'm busy, but I also mean that I am each individual task I'm engaged in gets done better and more efficiently when I have ten others. 2) Space is destiny. I need a good workspace to be productive. Well, the 2 courses I'm teaching have really kicked in, so I have plenty to do with my days now, so I feel busy, plus we've had kitchen cabinets delivered, and lectures to attend, etc. My calendar is filling up with appointments. And, we've finally gotten the office (semi) set up. The desk, at least, is set up, and provides somewhere to work other than the coffee table where I'd been working, and the kitchen table after that (there is the library and coffee shops, too, but lugging all these books sucks). This is all a way of saying that I've fully tweaked and sent off one chapter this week and am well on the way to having a second wrapped up. Progress feels good. Pretty soon I need to add a couple things to that mix -- my ACSP paper, which I need to compile from my diss in a week or so, and a UAA abstract due Monday. But that's short.
Forgot to post anything yesteday -- anyway, today and tomorrow I'm attacking Ch 4 -- going through all the old plans spread out on the table at the moment, trying to get some words on (virtual) paper. Brody1 wants to meet tomorrow to discuss the article we've been working on for a while. I guess that's a good idea, though I should probably not meet till later....
OK, sidelined by some poor health at the end of the week, I didn't get as much done as I wanted this week. Edited Ch 1 and 2. Still need to fine tune 1, and will try to send that (with 2 -- no sense in sending them out of order) on Tuesday, since I have a day off from teaching that day.
I was a little swamped prepping for class this week, since I was in Cornbana last week, and didn't get as much done on the plane as I'd hoped. But, dissertations don't write themselves. This week, I plan to finally polish off the first 3 chapters and send it to my committee. That sort of means I need to edit and tidy up one chapter per day, but I actually have less time than that, since I've spent this morning cleaning out my email inboxes and dealing with some pressing messages. I actually feel pretty good about how these 3 chapters are looking already, but since I haven't worked on them in a while I want to go back through them, and more importantly, make sure that I'm actually doing what I say I'm doing in the subsequent chapters. OK....
This is the blog where I'll try to humiliate myself into doing something productive now and then. But not quite yet....
